I see you use Simple Practice. What is that?

Simple Practice is our medical records and telehealth system. We will use them for our virtual meetings where you will be emailed and texted the secure link ahead of time.

Do we meet in person or virtually over telehealth?

I am currently working once a week in the office and the other days virtual. Please inquire to learn more about my schedule. Sometimes we can also use a hybrid model of both in-person and telehealth visits.

Are there any special requirements to begin therapy with you?

For couples therapy, I require both members of the couple to be in their own individual therapy. The best clients for me are those that are eager to grow, learn, and are motivated to dig into therapy! Clients who are in active addiction or eating disorders are not best for my practice, as they may require a higher level of care.

I see you use Drama Therapy and Expressive Art Therapy. What is that?

Drama Therapy is the use of story, metaphor, and role to help guide the therapeutic process. The North American Drama Therapy Association provides a helpful definition that “Drama therapy is an embodied practice that is active and experiential. This approach can [help clients] tell their stories, set goals…solve problems [and] express feelings…Through drama, the depth of….inner experience can be actively explored and interpersonal relationship skills can be enhanced.” You can learn more at nadta.org. Expressive Art Therapy uses other modalities like movement, music, visual art, creative writing or poetry to help clients express themselves.

What is ERP therapy?

ERP therapy stands for Exposure and Response Prevention which is a type of treatment for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Through ERP, the therapist assigns challenges, starting small, each week, that can help expose the client to what feels distressing or uncomfortable. Eventually, the tolerance for discomfort builds up over time, and clients learn to sit with uncertainty and feel more empowered. The goal is to ask the anxiety to take a step back from running the show! You can learn more about ERP and OCD at the International OCD Foundation at iocdf.org.
